Luka Rocco Magnotta may have posted videos while on the run, Montreal police say
The videos appear to have been posted from Saturday to Monday, just before Magnotta was arrested in Berlin at a cyber café after spending an hour reading about himself online.
The 29-year-old porn actor used different music in each video but all of the songs dated to 1987. Police were unable to explain whether the year had particular significance for Magnotta, who was born Eric Newman in Scarborough in 1982.
Investigators are also attempting to determine whether Magnotta commented anonymously on the grisly video of the butchery and dismemberment of a Chinese university student, apparently on May 25.
“It's possible. This will be verified in interrogation, but I did see the comments (that might seem to be from him),” Mainville, the head of the Montreal police Major Crimes unit, told La Presse.
Police discovered Lin’s torso in a discarded suitcase in Montreal on May 29, the same day body parts were found addressed to the Conservative and the Liberal party headquarters in Ottawa.
Two of the recent videos appear to be shot in the same room with neon yellow walls and Magnotta wearing a white hoodie and blond hair. In one 12-second video (see above), the song “La Isla Bonita” by Madonna plays as Magnotta sits on a maroon couch and says, “What’s up and hi to all my fans.”
A video in the same setting posted June 2 shows him peeking through curtains out of a window with the dance hit “The Great Commandment” from the German group Camouflage.
A “music video” uses the song Truth Faith from the New Order group from the movie “American Psycho” to back a 2:59 montage of still photos of Magnotta.
